My body care routine for keeping my body acne in control.

Hello everyone. I hope everyone is safe and doing well. As the title of this post suggests this post is my body care routine which I have started following a few months ago to keep my body acne in control. I hope you find this post helpful and let me know what you would like to read about in the future.

Quick disclaimer before beginning. This post is not for diagnosing anyone. I am not a skincare expert or a dermatologist. These post are just meant for being information and are based off of my experience.

Now that we are done with the introduction and disclaimer let us start with the routine.

Back Acne or Bacne according to Kara Shah, MD, a board-certified general and pediatric dermatologist with Kenwood Dermatology in Cincinnati is the result of an accumulation of dead skin cells and oil [sebum] within the pores in the skin, combined with an overgrowth of a common skin bacteria, Cutibacterium acnes, which triggers an inflammatory response.
“Acne on the back and shoulders is commonly associated with sports activities that cause increased sweating and friction from athletic gear and clothing,” she continues. A clogged follicle eventually breaks down and forms an acne lesion, according to the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases.

Types: Like face acne body acne too has similar types of acne namely:
  1. Whiteheads (Closed Comedones)
  2. Blackheads
  3. Papules
  4. Pustules
  5. Nodules
  6. Cysts

My experience with Back Acne:
I ever since I can remember have been extremely sweaty and this often led to me getting breakouts on my back and chest. It's always been cystic painful acne for me with respect to my back acne. I up until this year did not really take good care of my body because that wasn't something which was taught to me. Right from showering in extremely hot water with stripping soaps and then not following it up with a moisturizer I have neglected my body a lot. Well not anymore because I am now more conscious about what I use and more invested in self care because it is my way of escape.

My current body care routine:
As much as I would love to stop taking hot water showers it is sort of the most comforting part of showers so I have tried to keep the temperature of the water a bit luke warm. So recently I did get myself the minimalist salicylic acid based facewash but it was not for my face but rather for my body. After cleansing my body with a soap I take a little bit of the facewash and lather it over my back and chest where I do tend to breakout the most. I massage it for a minute and then rinse it off. I also do like to use the facewash on the back of my arm where my skin tends to be a bit bumpy. I use the BHA facewash twice a week. Once I am done with my shower I pat my skin with a cotton or microfiber towel to get rid of the excess water and on damp skin I use a body lotion. Currently I have been using the Nykaa Body Lotion in their new Almond flavour and it literally smells like Badam Milk.
This is my body care routine. Nothing over the top. But if you are trying to save in on the facewash then after shower apply your BHA serum on your back and chest and then top it off with a body lotion or moisturizer. And one of the most underrated creams available easily in every chemist shop is 'Moisturex'. It contains lactic acid and urea which is an amazing body exfoliator and also very hydrating. It suits dry skin people well but because it has lactic acid I wouldn't use it daily but you can use it once or twice a week at night after showers and for the rest of the day use a body lotion of your choice. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY wear a body sunscreen. My current favorite body sunscreen is the Nivea spf 50 lotion.

I hope this post was helpful. These are the few methods I have tried and my current body was method with the salicylic acid facewash  and body lotion has been working phenomenally. Do let me know if these tips have helped you and what more topics would you like me to write about :)
