A guide to creating a basic skincare routine.

Hello everyone. I hope you readers are safe and are doing well❤

After the first post about what to keep in mind while making yourself a skincare routine I decided to make an individual post about what products do you need in a basic skincare routine and how to find good products.

So making a skincare routine is not only difficult but also very personal. It is also very important to take care of our face the same way we take care of our body. Most of us until now did not even realize how much damage we have done to our skin by using a bar soap for cleansing our face and not applying sunscreen and just roaming around outside in hot sunny weather. In this post I will be dealing with a very basic skincare routine with no actives and will also give you my favorite product recommendations.

The basic products you will need for a basic skincare routine are a double cleanser, moisturizer, an exfoliator and sunscreen. Products like serums, toners, essence are all extra products which are not really necessary. So lets start with each steps and product recommendations for the same.

1. Cleansing: Cleansing could be one of the most damaging part of the skincare if you are not using the right product as per your skin type. According to me everyone should double cleanse. As most of you know by now a cleansing balm or cleansing oil is much better than a makeup wipe or just a single cleanser. Cleansing balm helps remove sunscreen and makeup much efficiently and this will be very helpful because if not cleansed properly then your skin could get clogged which would lead up to acne. Following up with the cleansing balm you should use a cleanser which is suitable to your skin type. I would also recommend the 60 second cleansing method by LABeautyologist.

My favorite cleansers are the plum cleansing balm, the re'equil oil free cleanser. I have oily acne prone skin so these are my go to cleanser duo.

2. Moisturizer: There are actually two types of moisturizers available- gel and cream based. Gel based moisturizer are more suitable for oily to normal skin type and cream based moisturizer for normal to dry skin type. It is very important to choose a correct moisturizer to avoid issues of closed comedones and pores clogging. Using a moisturizer on damp skin will give you the best results.

I am currently loving the minimalist's 3% specicalm + oat moisturizer. It has a gel cream hybrid texture and it gets absorbed into my skin almost immediately.

3. Sunscreen: If I was able to go past in time and change something in my life I would have forced my younger self to use sunscreen. The way my forehead is more tanned than my face and honestly all the sun damage is just so difficult to get rid of. There are two types of sunscreens available that is physical filters and chemical filters and then there is a hybrid of the two. Whichever sunscreen you use just make sure that the sunscreen product you use has at least spf 30 and pa ++.

My personal favorite sunscreens are re'equil ultra matte sunscreen with spf 50. It is a hybrid. And if anyone is looking for a chemical sunscreen then bello photostable sunscreen and it has spf 40. Both these sunscreen don't give me grey cast and that is a boon to all my dark skin beauties.

4. Exfoliation: Gone are the times we used physical scrubs to 'exfoliate' our skin to get rid of congested pores and acne.... Yeah not the brightest time in most of our teenage life. Let us not use physical scrubs in 2021 instead use serums with salicylic and lactic acid as per our skin type and get the best results without damaging our skin. If you acne issues and closed comedones then get yourself a 2% salicylic acid serum and with patience watch your skin glow and get healthy. If you just want a gentle exfoliation and do not have acne issues then get yourself a lactic acid based serum. And its also impressive that finally we do have PHA available in India. This is a very mild exfoliator and its very well suited for sensitive skin types.

My favorite products are from Minimalist. I am currently loving most of their products and my skin is doing much better. I hope this post helps you newbies who are looking forward to get into skincare and are intimidated. I promise you that skincare is not at all difficult as it seems and there are very good budget friendly options available in the market which gives you amazing results. In future I am planning on making posts about how to use products efficiently and how to patch test.

Thank you for reading❤ comment down your suggestions and things you want me to write about in future posts and subscribe.
